Choose a day cruise if you want a simpler fit

1. Private boat or private bedroom?
A private room on a shared boat is different from exclusive use of the whole vessel. Ask which arrangement the price covers and whether dining and lounge areas will be shared. For a family or group, confirm the number of bedrooms and the sleeping arrangement in each.
2. Air-conditioning hours
Ask when air-conditioning operates and in which spaces. Do not assume that an air-conditioned bedroom means all-day cooling throughout the boat. If daytime rest is important, make that requirement explicit before accepting a quote.
3. Meals and drinking water
Request the included meal schedule and discuss vegetarian preferences, allergies or other requirements before booking. Confirm whether drinks and special dishes cost extra. A menu agreed in advance is more useful than a vague promise of “all meals”.
4. The actual route
Ask for the boarding point, cruising area and return or drop-off point. A large houseboat and a smaller canoe or shikara do not necessarily use the same waterways. If seeing narrower canals is a priority, ask whether a suitable separate excursion is available and what it costs.
5. Access and comfort
Request photographs of the boarding arrangement, bathroom and bedroom. Tell the organiser about mobility needs, young children or any difficulty with steps. Check that the boat can meet those needs before relying on a general description such as “family friendly”.
6. Safety and operating documents
Ask the operator to confirm current licensing and applicable safety arrangements, including suitable life jackets for everyone in your group. Check any claimed tourism classification against the relevant official record. Marketing labels such as deluxe or luxury are not a substitute for verifying the actual facilities.
7. Changes and cancellations
Get the cancellation terms, weather-related arrangements and boat-substitution policy in writing. If the promised vessel is unavailable, know how an alternative will be agreed. Compare the total payable amount, including taxes and any transfer charges.
