Six days is enough to see four contrasting sides of Kerala when the route is planned carefully. This private journey starts with Kochi’s layered heritage, climbs into Munnar’s tea country, crosses to Thekkady and finishes aboard a traditional Alleppey houseboat. It suits travellers who want a compact introduction without adding a beach extension.
This guide follows the current itinerary of Varanasi Excursion’s 6-Day Kerala Nature & Wildlife Tour. It distinguishes confirmed inclusions from items worth checking before booking.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kochi and explore its heritage quarter
After arrival and hotel check-in at Chullickal, the planned sightseeing covers St Francis Church, the Chinese Fishing Nets, Portuguese-era houses, the Jewish Synagogue, Jew Town and Mattancherry Palace. Read our Fort Kochi arrival and heritage guide before you travel.
Day 2: Kochi to Munnar
The approximately 160-kilometre drive takes about four to five hours. Stops at Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls and Karadippara viewpoint turn the transfer into a scenic introduction to the Western Ghats.
Day 3: Munnar sightseeing
The included programme visits Eravikulam National Park at Rajamalai, the Tea Museum, a local tea factory, Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and Kundala Lake. Boating at Mattupetty is optional and payable separately. Our relaxed Munnar guide explains how to pace the hill-station stops.
Day 4: Munnar to Thekkady
The drive is roughly 110 kilometres and around three and a half hours, with included stops at Lock Heart Gap and Anayirangal Dam. The published day does not list a Periyar boat ride or wildlife activity, so request confirmation if either is important to you.
Day 5: Thekkady to Alleppey houseboat
Travel to Alleppey, board a traditional houseboat and cruise through the backwaters before spending the night on board. The itinerary lists breakfast for this day but does not explicitly confirm houseboat lunch or dinner. Ask which onboard meals are included before paying. Use our Kerala houseboat packing guide.
Day 6: Alleppey to Kochi
After breakfast, transfer to Kochi airport for departure. Allow a sensible buffer when choosing an onward flight.
